After meeting up at the regular spot at 7:00
a.m., we made our way up to Marysville, then up Hiway 20 to Marysville
Road, which took us up to the American House Trail. The goal
was to play in the snow with our trucks and to let the kids play
in the snow on their sleds.
We first started hitting snow at 3,700 ft. By the time we
got to the trailhead at 5,100 ft, there was plenty of snow all
around. We aired down and headed out. Ron "Bushwacker"
lead the way until we hit our first section of tough snow. The
area was well shaded with soft and deep snow. After he made a
few attempts, Steve "Medfly" gave it a shot. He got
stuck after a little progress and then had to be pulled out by
Bushwacker. I made good progress up the hill then let the others
try. The Yellow Amigo made a valiant run at it and high centered
himself (the Air Locker couldn't help him there). In the end
it was Carol who pushed us through to the top.
Once over and around, we came to a better clearing with a
long sled hill for the kids and plenty of places to park for
the rest of us.
Medfly, Bushwacker, and I continued along the trail for awhile
just to see how far we could make it. Medfly got stuck where
we had set up camp and I winched him out. Then I got stuck breaking
the trail further along. Medfly pulled me out. Bushwacker attempted
to go futher but got stuck himself. I pulled him out and we went
back to the others.
We set up camp, videoed some good sled crashes and jumps,
then broke camp around 3:00 p.m. We headed up to the LaPorte
Hotel where I aired up and headed home. The rest of the club
decided to stay longer. |
